Strand: Christian Ethics – Personal and Social (CEL1-2E1)

Levels 1 and 2

God calls humanity to care for self, others and Creation as a gift of love.

Describe ways in which Christians can share the responsibility of caring for all of God’s creation both human and natural.

Elaborations

For Catholic Christians the first two stories of Genesis underpin the Church’s teaching on the dignity of the human person, as well as the interconnectedness to the natural world. In drawing on these passages of scripture, the Church teaches that a loving creator God created both humanity and all of the natural world in God’s own image. The interconnectedness of one to another is imperative.

The Creation Stories in the Old Testament: Gen 1:1- 2:4 The 7 Day Creation Story. Emphasis is made that God’s creation at the end of each stage “was good,” following a pattern, culminating in “very good” at the end of the sixth stage and the creation of humanity.

Gen 2: 23 “Bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh” (From Adam & Eve Creation Story), where all of humanity is intimately connected. This requires responsibility to care for all of creation. Link to Laudato Si. See: CAFOD Laudato Si animation for Children. Laudato Si' animation for Children
